Konglish – English in Korean

Konglish is any English word with a different meaning in Korean. These words are also called pseudo-anglicisms, which are English words in any non-English language that have altered meanings.

The beginnings of Konglish goes back to the late 1950’s when South Korea started to rise economically after the Korean War. International relations came with the economic growth, along with the English language. After that there’s no telling on how these words came about.

Some words are similar to their English counterparts and some are more outlandish. Both are interesting to see how close or far they are from their normal meanings.
